Folkestone U14s knew they were in for a hard match; all Medway youth teams are tough opposition, especially at home, and this age group were no exception. In a first half which saw the Stones concede five tries it was a lack of tackling which cost them dearly. Folkestone did manage to get on the score sheet with a try by Ryan Morgan, converted by Frankie Morgan to give a half time score of 29-7 to the home team. The second half was an improvement for Stones with Ryan Morgan showing his speed by scoring twice more; Frankie Morgan converting one. Stones’ Captain and centre Tom Boreham led his team well, with the highest tackle count for the team, but the rest of the players need to put in the effort to tackle better if they are to win against future opposition, something the team all agree on. At the end of the game it was good to hear the opposition coach praise the Stones’ side for their continual pressure on his team and he also praised the rucking and passing skills of the Stones’ players. Despite being well beaten on the pitch by 49 points to 19 a piece of pride was restored in the bar afterwards when Stuart Sanders won the now obligatory ‘coke’ challenge for the visitors. |
